Thailand's education/student visa (Education Visa) is a visa for foreigners who wish to study, observe, or train in Thailand. This type of visa allows legal stay in Thailand for the duration of study.
It has 90 day visa validity, allowed to extend 3 times, allowing you to stay in the Kingdom up to 1 year.

Criteria and conditions for consideration
of Education visa (Non-ED) applicant
- 1. The foreigner must have received temporary stay stamp : as Non-Immigrant 'ED' (Non-ED) in passport already

2. To apply for education/student visa Non-ED : must be certified and supported by the educational institution applied to study at, that is:
- 2.1 The institution must issue certification of student status
- 2.2 Must state permission for said student or trainee to reside in Thailand for further study

- 1.1 Letter requesting visa type change or receipt from university dean (To: Commander of Immigration Bureau)
- 1.2 Letter requesting visa type change or receipt from department level agency under Ministry of Education, or provincial governor for below higher education institutions or Educational Service Area Office (To: Commander of Immigration Bureau)
- 1.3 Copy of applicant's educational certificates (with copy of latest tuition fee receipt)

- 2.1 Letter requesting visa type change or receipt from university dean (To: Commander of Immigration Bureau)
- 2.2 Letter requesting visa type change or receipt from department level agency under Ministry of Education, or provincial governor for below higher education level, or Educational Service Area Office (To: Commander of Immigration Bureau)
- 2.3 Letter requesting visa type change or receipt from school director or manager (international)
- 2.4 Copy of school operating license (signed certified copy)
- 2.5 Copy of school administrator operating license (signed certified copy)
- 2.6 Copy of applicant's educational certificates
Process to apply for education visa/student visa
Non-Immigrant 'ED' (Non-ED) or Education, application requirements are:
- Form TM 87
- Visa change form TM 86 : (for those applying to change visa from Thailand)
- Copy of endorsed student/trainee passport
- Acceptance letter issued : by educational institution
- Approval letter from Ministry of Education : (for private institutions)
- 4x6 cm photo
- Passport must have at least 18 months : validity on arrival
- Passport : must have at least one blank visa page
- Signed copy : of all passport pages
- Copy of round trip : air ticket to/from Thailand
- Original signed : "acceptance letter" from school
- Confirm you have paid : the admission fee
- Evidence you have at least US$750 in the bank : (this amount must be reconfirmed every 90 days)
- You must comply with all other : government regulations
- Attend the minimum class : hours and all education requirements
- You must attend school : within a few days of arriving in Thailand
- Fee : 2,000 baht
Things to know and regulations for education visa/student visa
Non-Immigrant 'ED' (Non-ED) or Education in Thailand
- For Non-ED visa it is activated : from the visa issuance date not your arrival date in Thailand, be careful not to apply too early before travelling to Thailand otherwise you may find your visa invalid before you arrive.
- Those with Single Entry visa : needing to travel out and re-enter must apply for Re-Entry before departing at nearest Immigration Bureau office or airport used for travel.
- Processing times : vary by country but please note this is not an overnight process, depending on your nationality and country applied from it can take up to 2 months to process the ED-Visa.
- This type of visa : does not allow working in Thailand.
- Must report every 90 days
- Non-Immigrant 'ED' Non-ED : cannot change visa type, need to exit country and apply for new visa.
